中國拘留向美出口含毒食品配料經理 (China Detains Managers Who Exported Tainted Food Ingredients to US)

中國當局拘押了向美國出口含有污染物的寵物食品配料的兩家公司的經理。這些食品被指導致美國一些寵物貓狗中毒死亡。

中國的質量監督機構國家質檢總局星期三表示，這兩家公司在出口小麥蛋白粉和大米蛋白粉中非法添加三聚氰胺，以使這些配料看上去含有豐富蛋白質。

三聚氰胺是生產塑料、肥料和滅火劑的一種原料。加入飼料中會使動物死亡。

中國國家質檢總局表示，這兩家公司在有毒食品產品上貼上出口“非法檢”標簽蒙混過關。這個機構還表示，對中國其它出口商的數以百計種產品抽樣檢查，沒有再發現三聚氰胺污染食品的情況。

Authorities in China have detained the managers of two companies that exported contaminated animal feed ingredients blamed for the deaths of dogs and cats in the United States.

China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said Wednesday the two companies illegally added the chemical melamine to wheat gluten and rice protein to make the ingredients appear more protein-rich.

Melamine is used in plastics, fertilizers and flame retardants. It can be deadly to animals when added to food.

The Chinese agency says the two companies disguised the tainted food products by labeling them as exports not subject to quality inspection. It says authorities found no more cases of melamine contamination after inspecting hundreds of samples from other Chinese exporters.
