10月9日，全國社會保障基金理事會與美國北美信托銀行和花旗銀行簽署了社保基金境外投資全球托管協(xié)議。成立于2000年的社保基金理事會，主要負(fù)責(zé)管理大部分國有企業(yè)的養(yǎng)老金，截至2005年底，其資產(chǎn)總額已達(dá)到2010.2億元人民幣。

The pension fund was created in 2000 to finance pensions paid by China's central government, and faces soaring demands in coming years as the number of retirees rises.

報道中，“pension”指的是“養(yǎng)老金”，也可做動詞“pension off”（發(fā)給…養(yǎng)老金使退休），如：They pensioned him off when they found a younger man for the job.（因找到了一名較為年輕的雇員，他們就給他發(fā)了養(yǎng)老金讓他退休了。）

另外，社保基金可用“Social Security Fund”來表達(dá)，而“養(yǎng)老保險金”相應(yīng)的英文是“endowment insurance”。日常所說的“三險一金”，即medical care insurance（醫(yī)療保險）；endowment insurance（養(yǎng)老保險）；unemployment insurance（失業(yè)保險）；housing fund（住房公積金）。
